The Early Years

The tournament began as a college event showcasing rising talent in Western North Carolina and schools from the Southeast. Named after PGA Tour professional J.T. Poston, a Hickory native, the event quickly gained recognition for its competitive spirit and community involvement.

Growth and Recognition

As the tournament gained prestige, more collegiate teams from across the country joined. The event expanded its partnerships with local schools and golf clubs, increasing access for youth programs and scholarships.

By this time, the WIGC Charitable Foundation had established a solid reputation for promoting youth development and golf course access, making the Invitational more than just a competition-it became a platform for growth and opportunity.

2011- -2015

2016- -2020

Establishing a Legacy

With continued success, the tournament drew national attention. Collegiate teams competed for one of the most coveted trophies in college golf, while the WIGC Charitable Foundation strengthened its impact in the community.

Scholarship programs, youth clinics, and mentorship initiatives reached new heights, helping hundreds of young athletes pursue both academic and athletic goals.

The JT Poston Invitational Today

Now held at the scenic Waynesville Inn and Golf Club, the JT Poston Invitational continues to attract top talent and provide meaningful opportunities for youth. The tournament has been a catalyst for community engagement, inspiring the next generation of golfers while raising crucial funds to support the WIGC Charitable Foundation’s programs.

As the tournament draws stronger collegiate fields each year, it also increases donations and support for the WIGC Charitable Foundation, allowing the expansion of scholarships, youth clinics, and mentorship initiatives.
